New Pioneers
New Student Orientation is an exciting time at Lewis & Clark, with new members of the Class of 2019 and transfer students arriving on Palatine Hill from around the world.
This year, the college is welcoming 697 students. Eight percent are international citizens, coming from 22 countries, and 42 states are represented. About a quarter of the incoming class are U.S. students of color.
At New Student Orientation this week, students are getting familiar with academic and cocurricular life at the college. These programs and events introduce students to the campus environment, provide opportunities to meet classmates as well as faculty and staff, and equip new Pioneers with the tools and resources necessary for a successful transition to Lewis & Clark.
As students arrived at their home for the next four years, President Barry Glassner, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences Catherine Kodat, and Dean of Students Anna Gonzalez were there to greet them and lend a hand with move-in. Numerous returning students, as well as faculty and staff volunteers clad in orange “Care Crew” T-shirts, also helped get students and families situated.
