Charli Bradley-Banish ’16
Major: East Asian Studies
Internship: Moujiti Interactive Experience Design

This summer I interned with Moujiti Interactive Experience Design, a creative collective that designs app software to engage young people in learning about China’s history. The company has some impressive clients, including the National Museum, Forbidden City Palace Museum, and Audi China.

As an intern I conducted field research in a traditional hutong neighborhood surrounding the newly renovated Miaoying Temple, a buddhist temple built in the Yuan Dynasty. Moujiti is one of the firms heading the project to develop this long neglected area into an art and sales hub, so my peers and I researched pre-renovation conditions, led tours for foreign and domestic architects, and interviewed current residents. All of my work required spoken Mandarin. When I wasn’t out in the field, I wrote and edited English-language media content for the company in the office.

My summer internship gave me invaluable insight into office work culture in China, helped me to improve my Chinese, and I made amazing connections in the international design field!

The Shanghai Internship Award was graciously funded by Lewis & Clark alumna Sara Rothert (’84) and Tianjin Ren. The donors collaborated with East Asian Studies and Foreign Languages faculty to select students.
