WellNotes: SH101 March

March 2015 WellNotes

Salutations Students,

Welcome to the March edition of WellNotes!  Be sure to check out this month’s issue of StudentHealth101 to learn about cherishing your sleep, getting academics on track, grocery store hacks and much more.

March is a great month for a lot of reasons.  St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner and Spring Break is on its way.  With all the excitement it can be easy to forget about self-care.  Use your time off to check in with yourself and see if there’s anything you’ve been neglecting.  Do you need a haircut? Are all of your relationships mutually beneficial? Have you called your family recently?  Whether you’re going home, to the beach, staying put, or on a whirlwind road trip be sure to take some time for yourself and recharge.  Here are some ideas for catching some R&R:

1.     Take a walk

2.     Listen to your favorite music

3.     Practice origami

4.     Take a swim

5.     Stretch/ do yoga

6.     Go bird watching or flower finding

7.     Visit a museum, gallery, or park

8.     Volunteer

Keep in mind that self-care should ultimately be healthy. Using excessive amounts of food, drugs, or alcohol to cope or try and relax can be more self-defeating than self-promoting. (Not that a late night run to Voodoo is a dreadful notion. Moderation is key).

Another awesome part about March is the International Fair THIS WEEKEND!  Mark March 7th on your calendars because you’re in for a real treat.  There will be all sorts of delicious student-made food from around the world served in the Bon from 11 to 1 and tables in Stamm at the same time.  There will also be cultural events in the chapel starting at 2.

The fun doesn’t stop there.  Battle of the Bands will be held in Stamm at 7:30. Come and support your fellow students as they rock out and maybe even discover your new favorite band.

Wishing you a healthy and happy March,

Ruby Roll and Melissa Osmond
