Life Sciences Renewal grant from the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust awarded to Dr. Weissman’s lab

Investigating the role of programmed cell death in the developing zebrafish hindbrain

Assistant Professor of Biology Tamily Weissman has been awarded a $20,000 Life Sciences Renewal grant from the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust. Dr. Weissman’s lab aims to identify the mechanisms that regulate developmental stages in the brain, using zebrafish as a model organism. This project, “Investigating the role of programmed cell death in the developing zebrafish hindbrain” will involve several undergraduates. The team will focus on mechanisms that help produce neurons in the brain, and use innovative imaging techniques to determine how the production of certain cells in the developing brain is balanced and regulated. More information about Dr. Weissman’s research is available here.
