Throwback Pioneers

Seniors give advice to incoming varsity student-athletes.

The environment at Lewis & Clark encourages student-athletes to achieve their full potential both in and out of the classroom. Small class sizes, freedom to pursue more than one sport, and support for extracurricular and cocurricular activities are our hallmarks.

With the fall sports season just starting to heat up, we asked four current seniors to offer their advice to the incoming class of Pioneer student-athletes. Here’s what they had to say.

Katie Keith ’15

Hometown: Bozeman, Montana

Majors: Math, East Asian Studies

Reach out in the first few weeks and make as many friends as possible within your team, across sports, and around campus. Those friendships will serve you during the exciting times and stressful ones in the semester to come.

Geena Fong ’15

Hometown: Honolulu, Hawai‘i

Major: Economics

Everything will go by quickly. You will have practices, classes, meetings, social gatherings, and much more. Make sure you find a way to organize your time. Remember that everyone feels overwhelmed at the beginning. Sometimes you just have to roll with it, but make sure that you step back once in a while and appreciate this amazing opportunity to be a student-athlete.

Curtis Shirey ’15

Hometown: Sacramento, California

Majors: Psychology, Rhetoric and Media Studies

Be open to all types of new experiences. You never know what you are going to like.

Kat Milan ’15

Hometown: Bangkok, Thailand

Major: Math

Schedule your days wisely to properly give time to do both the things you love and the things you have to get done. Definitely plan on being busy in the best way possible!
