Carl Vance, vice president for business and finance, has announced his intention to retire from the position next summer. Vance will remain active in a half-time position as chief investment officer.

Vance, who joined the Lewis & Clark administration in 2006 after 21 years of service as chief investment officer at Occidental and Linfield colleges, was praised by President Barry Glassner for his outstanding service to the College.

“Carl has done exemplary work managing our budget and endowment, navigating the economic downturn of 2007 and 2008, and working with key committees of the Board of Trustees including Investment, Finance, Audit, and Buildings and Grounds,” President Glassner said. “While I am sorry we will lose Carl as CFO, I’m pleased that he will remain with the College in a half-time position as chief investment officer, and that he will continue to devise and implement endowment investment strategies that will serve the College, and our students, for many years to come.”
