Meet Jessye Lavine ’16, a psychology major and intern at OHSU’s Developmental Brain Imaging Lab.

Can you tell us what you’re doing this summer? What are your basic duties as an intern?
I am working in the Developmental Brain Imaging Lab at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) under Bonnie Nagel. I am working with three different studies having to do with substance abuse and the developing adolescent brain. I assist in brain scanning, neuropsychology examinations, double-scoring neuropsychology follow-up exams, and data entry.
How has Lewis & Clark supported you in the process of finding, securing, and funding your internship?
I found this internship through another student at Lewis & Clark who had it last summer. Lewis & Clark is funding my entire internship and is the reason I am able to stay in Portland and work at OHSU.
How do you see this internship leading to a career in your chosen field and aiding in your overall career development?
I plan on continuing to volunteer in the lab here at OHSU next semester. I eventually want to go to medical school, so this internship is a fantastic way to gain experience in the research and clinical sides of healthcare.
Is there anything else you’d like to tell us about your experience thus far?
I am starting my fourth week here and I absolutely love it. My coworkers are extremely helpful and kind, and I have already learned more than I ever thought I would in a single summer. I am very excited to continue working here after the summer is over.
