Can you tell us what you’re doing this summer? What are your basic duties as an intern?
How has Lewis & Clark supported you in the process of finding, securing, and funding your internship?
Lewis & Clark helped me to build the critical analytical skills to go over information and interpret, discuss, and present it. The college also helped me secure a grant so that this internship would be feasible for my family and me.
How do you see this internship leading to a career in your chosen field and aiding in your overall career development?
The first phase of the internship will largely consist of organizing U.S.-China Clean Energy Initiative Project events and programs. This will improve my basic clerical and administrative coordination skills on an international level, which will serve me well because I intend to work in the United States Foreign Service. Furthermore, I will be traveling in the state of Wyoming to publicize the clean energy project. This will include working with Wyoming legislators as well as local citizens to garner attention. This phase also includes researching funding sources such as grants and philanthropic aid. I believe that such research will help me find funding for my own global research projects that I hope to pursue in the future.
During the second phase of my internship, I will be responsible for creating relationships between a local high school in Jackson and a school in the Shanxi province of China. This is pertinent to my future as a diplomat, as I will be setting up student exchanges that focus on sharing information about clean energy and culture. My internship may also include a travel component to the Shanxi province to attend meetings to formalize the relationship between the organization and the legislative branch in the province.
