Meet Lindy Colvin ’15, an international affairs major and intern at HelpArgentina.
Lindy Colvin ’15

Major: International affairs
Hometown: Erie, Pennsylvania

Can you tell us what you’re doing this summer? What are your basic
duties as an intern?

I’m working at HelpArgentina, which is a nonprofit located in Buenos Aires that fundraises internationally to support more than 70 other nonprofits that aid various social and economic development causes within Argentina. The organization assists these nonprofits with advice on project design, research management, and impact assessment. Specifically, I work for HelpArgentina’s RACI Program (Argentine Network for International Cooperation) which works to create a network in which organizations can collaborate on central agendas by pooling resources and contacts. As an intern, I am responsible for grant research, data management, website upkeep, and translation of newsletters. I also have the opportunity to attend conferences on international cooperation.

How has Lewis & Clark supported you in the internship process?

I found and secured this internship on my own, but I was awarded the Stephanie Fowler and Irving Levin Summer Internship Award, which is almost entirely funding my summer here.

How do you see this internship leading to a career in your chosen field and aiding in your overall career development?

I am an international affairs major with a Latin American concentration pursuing a career in international development, so HelpArgentina is a perfect fit with my personal, academic, and professional interests, and a great opportunity for me to see development work firsthand in my region of study. Since HelpArgentina works with 70 different organizations encompassing a variety of progressive agendas, I have gained a firm grasp of the many critical and interconnected developmental issues across the region. I have also gained insight into how the nonprofit world functions and operates.

Is there anything else you’d like to tell us about your experience thus far?

I am very, very grateful to the donors of the Fowler and Levin internship grants. Without their generosity, I would not have been able to come to Argentina to take advantage of this opportunity, nor would I have met the friends I have made, or experienced the great city of Buenos Aires!

The Stephanie Fowler and Irving Levin Summer Internship Award was established by Stephanie Fowler MA ’97 and Irving Levin, generous donors committed to ensuring that Lewis & Clark students are able to have meaningful and enriching summer internship experiences.
