RACC grant enables Russian play to be brought to life

As a founding member of Portland Experimental Theatre Ensemble (PETE), Assistant Professor of Theatre Rebecca Lingafelter recently received a $6,000 Regional Arts & Culture Council (RACC) project grant for a PETE production. This project is especially exciting as it will involve collaboration between two members of Lewis & Clark’s Theatre department. This coming summer (2014), PETE will team up with Stepan Simek, Professor of Theatre and Department Chair, to produce a site-specific adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s Three Sisters. As described by Lingafelter, “Three Sisters: HOME will return to the fierce sparseness of the original Russian text to create a visceral new English translation. The play follows the lives of three sisters over five years as they navigate the personal, cultural and political changes that rocked Russia at the end of the 19th Century.” This unique production will be open to the public, and performed in at a private residence in NE Portland 12 times over several weeks in July.
