September 04, 2013
To support the new changes in the Department of Inclusion and Multicultural Engagement, Student Life established a new position that supports both the programming efforts of the Department of Inclusion and Multicultural Engagement and International Students and Scholars. Meet Jessika Chi, our new Program Manager!
Jessika Chi hails from Dallas, Texas and most recently comes to us from University of the Pacific. For the past three years, she has worked in Residence Life at University of the Pacific and Southern Methodist University. Jessika holds an M.A. in Educational Administration and Leadership, with an emphasis on Student Affairs and a B.A. in Political Science and English.
Jessika has experience in facilitating student development and investing in the academic, personal, and professional success of students through meaningful one-on-one interactions, mentoring, advising, and facilitating training workshops in various areas. She has additional experience in developing, implementing, and assessing programs and curriculum that supports academic achievement, community engagement, and identity and leadership development.
Jessika is deeply committed to life-long learning and fulfills her purpose in life by advocating for educational and social equity. She works to advance multicultural student education. Through mentoring, advising, and creating initiatives in multicultural education, she helps cultivate awareness and change around issues of social justice and diversity. She infuses multicultural awareness into the training of student staff and invests in her own personal development and understanding of multicultural issues.
Jessika says “As an advocate for educational and social equity, I believe that education is the key to disrupting core issues of racism, poverty, and violence that are barriers to creating strong, healthy, and democratic learning communities. I plan to empower youth with the skills to be change agents in creating these vibrant, equitable communities. I also plan to exercise my privilege and utilize my experience as a first generation college student of Color to advocate for and support international students and historically underrepresented students. The retention of underrepresented student groups is vital to student success and to advancing educational equity.”
Jessika’s life motto is “Challenge the status quo in favor of wild dreams - and don’t ever settle for anything less.”
