Hubert E. and Frances D. Walker Memorial Scholarship Fund Helps Students
Open gallery
Although he never attended Lewis & Clark College, Hubert Walker was a staunch believer in the quality liberal arts education the college provides. When he passed away last fall, he gave the gift of educational access for students of the College of Arts and Sciences through a new endowed scholarship, the Hubert E. and Frances D. Walker Memorial Scholarship Fund. The approximately $100,000 in annual funds will be used to provide student financial aid.
Walker was a longtime Portland resident, accountant, investor, and property owner and manager, who befriended Lewis & Clark in the early 1980s. According to his son, David, his father served in World War II by working in the shipyards and later earned his CPA while working days and going to school at night.
Walker established his first charitable trust with the Lewis & Clark in 1983 and two more in the 90s, with the request that funds benefit students at the undergraduate college.
Lewis & Clark is most grateful for the generosity of Walker, whose thoughtful gift planning will benefit generations of students.
