Student Summer Research about Russian-speaking Immigrant Communities in Oregon
May 16, 2013
As part of Professor Osipovich’s Mellon summer research grant, two students of Russian, Vicky Radenkova (IA major/Russian minor, ’14) and David Salkowski (Music major/Russian minor, ’14), have been hired to assist her in investigating the history of Russian-speaking immigrant communities in Oregon from the early 20th century to the present.
The students’ major research objective is to collect and evaluate primary and secondary sources related to the history and social, ethnic, and cultural composition of the Russian-speaking diaspora in Oregon. They will then make this knowledge available to the public by creating a website featuring information and resources about these immigrant communities. The Russian Program plans to launch the web site in the fall of 2013.
