Major: mathematics

I focused my search on schools that would allow me to excel both academically and athletically. Lewis & Clark was the perfect match: a small, NCAA Division III, academically rigorous liberal arts college where coaches would be flexible enough to allow me to compete in all three of my sports. Even before I began applying to colleges, I knew that I wanted to end up here.

Hometown: El Dorado Hills, California

Major: mathematics

My decision came down to my recruiting visit. I knew the school would be academically challenging and athletically demanding, and would give me a chance to grow as a person. But would I get along with the people? My recruiter, Coach Jacobs, met me and was great. I sat in on a class—and was called on by the professor! Afterward, two students took me to Maggie’s and bought me ice cream. The team was friendly and the coaches were wise. I knew by Sunday brunch that Lewis & Clark was going to be my choice.

Michael Kinkenon ’15

Hometown: Las Vegas, Nevada

Major: international affairs

I picked Lewis & Clark because I know that a degree from this college means something, and I will be prepared when I head into the work environment. I also loved the campus. Being here every day makes me realize how blessed I am to go to one of the top schools in the country.

Madison Hollenbeck ’15

Major: undecided

Hometown: Shoreline, Washington

I chose Lewis & Clark because of the welcoming atmosphere. As soon as I stepped on campus, I immediately felt at home. There was an automatic kindness from everyone. I also loved the support that was evident in all aspects of the school. The professors, coaches, and students all make you push yourself and work harder than you thought you could—and that’s what I wanted out of a college.

Andrew LeDonne ’13

Hometown: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Majors: economics

I chose Lewis & Clark for the small classes and community atmosphere, both of which were essential to me. From my visits, I could tell the professors were very hands-on and engaging. You don’t get lost in a sea of people here; you stand out as the individual you are.
