New York City Urban Fellows Program

The Urban Fellows Program is a highly selective, nine-month fellowship which combines work in Mayoral offices and City agencies with an intensive seminar series that explores current urban issues impacting public policy. Program participants are diverse and come from all over the country to work in New York City.

The Urban Fellows Program is a highly selective, nine-month fellowship which combines work in Mayoral offices and City agencies with an intensive seminar series that explores current urban issues impacting public policy. Program participants are diverse and come from all over the country to work in New York City.

After participating in an extensive interview process, New York City Urban Fellows are placed at an array of agencies across the City where they learn about public policy through a hands-on approach. From the budget process to agency operations, low income housing to affordable health care and education to economic development the Fellows come to appreciate the wide range of challenges in New York City government.

To be eligible for the 2017-2018 program you must

  • Receive(d) your bachelor’s degree between Spring 2015 and Spring 2017
  • Eligibility is not based on when you achieved your Master’s Degree
  • Those granted degrees in December 2014 and Summer 2017 are not eligible
  • Commit full-time to the nine-month Fellowship
  • Agree to suspend any graduate study or outside work for the duration of the Fellowship
  • Applicants must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the United States after graduation and for the entire fellowship period. Applicants must meet the criteria set forth by the I-9, “Employment Eligibility Verification,” from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
