Understanding Innovation

Students explore how entrepreneurs think.

Last winter, Lewis & Clark introduced students to the entrepreneurial mindset—and to the skills needed to put innovative ideas into action—through a workshop held over winter break.

Teams of students brainstormed and developed their own business ideas, from a roving food truck to a turbine engine for hybrid vehicles to a summer camp. The weeklong syllabus was packed with guest speakers who showed students how to apply what they’ve learned at Lewis & Clark to life after college, regardless of whether they start a business, work for a nonprofit, or attend graduate school.

“It’s another avenue for preparing our students for success,” says Tuajuanda Jordan, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

The popular program is now a regular part of the academic year. The next workshop takes place January 14-18, 2013.
