SOAN Student Awarded a National Prize for 2011 Thesis Excerpt

Andrea (Dre) Chiriboga-Flor has been awarded a national prize for a submission excerpted from her 2011 thesis.




Andrea Chiriboga-Flor BA ’12 was awarded the 2012 prize for the best undergraduate paper from the Society of Urban, National, and Transnational/Global Anthropology (SUNTA), a section of the American Anthropological Association.

Chiriboga-Flor’s award-winning paper, “The Whole World is Watching: An Ethnographic Study of Spatiality, Identity, and Marginalization Within the Occupy Portland Movement,” was excerpted from her senior sociology/anthropology thesis, which was based on original fieldwork about the Occupy Portland camp and its relationship to Jobs for Justice.

Chiriboga-Flor’s paper was nominated by Deborah Heath, associate professor of anthropology.
