From the Institute’s Website:
“Offered by the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies and supported by the National Science Foundation, the Research Experiences for Undergraduates Program chooses 8-12 students each year to participate in ecological research at an established research institute. The program lasts for 12 weeks from the end of May until the end of August, for which time recipients will receive a $6,300 stipend, housing, and a $900 food allowance.
“Students will design their own research projects in consultation with scientists, speak at the Cary Institute’s annual Undergraduate Research Symposium, and write a paper for online publication.
“Starting in 2011, the Cary REU program has embraced a new focus – Translational Ecology. We hope to train a new generation of environmental scientists who are both prepared and motivated to translate ecological science to the public. The Cary Translational Ecology REU program weaves together activities in 5 strands:
- Cutting Edge Independent Research Projects
- Linkages to Policy and Management
- Linkages to the Public
- Linkages to Education
- Reflective Practice, Training and Integration
Deadline: early February
