Killam Fellowships

The Killam Fellowships Program provides an opportunity for exceptional undergraduate students from universities in the United States to spend either one semester or a full academic year as an exchange student in Canada.

The Killam Fellowships Program provides an opportunity for exceptional undergraduate students from universities in the United States to spend either one semester or a full academic year as an exchange student in Canada. Students may participate in the program either as a direct exchange student (registering at their home university, paying their home fees, and attending the host university as an exchange visitor) or as a self-placed visiting student (registering at the host university and paying host tuition fees).

The Killam Fellowships Program provides a cash award of $5,000 US per semester ($10,000 for a full academic year), an all expense paid three day orientation in Ottawa, and a three day all expense paid seminar in Washington. In addition, the Foundation provides all American Killam Fellows with a health insurance allowance of $500 Cdn. All Killam Fellows are also eligible to apply for a mobility (in-country travel) grant in an amount not to exceed $800 Cdn.

Eligibility: Applicants must be a citizen of the United States; full-time undergraduate student in good standing at a degree granting institution in the United States; meet the eligibility requirements of their home university (as they relate to participation in international exchange programs); be fluent in English (and/or French, where appropriate); have a superior academic record; complete all the steps of the application process prior to the published deadlines and; be nominated by his/her university to receive a Killam Fellowship.
