An episode of the nationally syndicated radio program Philosophy Talk that was recorded at Lewis & Clark will soon hit the airwaves.

The show was taped last April in front of a live audience and explores the nature of wilderness, a theme close to the hearts of Lewis & Clark community members. Hosts Ken Taylor and John Perry were joined by Jay Odenbaugh, associate professor of philosophy, to discuss what is natural and what is artificial about wilderness, whether humans are a part of nature or distinct from it, and how to approach conservation efforts so that we balance the needs of a growing world population with the need to preserve some aspect of the wild in our lives.

The Lewis & Clark episode of Philosophy Talk will first air on Sunday, August 26, at 10 a.m. on KALW-FM in San Francisco, and again at noon on Tuesday, August 28. Both broadcasts can be streamed live. It will air on OPB Radio on Thursday, August 30, at 8 p.m.

Lewis & Clark’s philosophy department hosts colloquia throughout the year featuring local and national scholars on a variety of topics. For more information, see this year’s colloquia schedule.
