Rhodes Scholarship

Rhodes Scholars are chosen not only for their outstanding scholarly achievements, but for their character, commitment to others and to the common good, and for their potential for leadership in whatever domains their careers may lead.

The Rhodes Scholarship provides full support for two years of study at Oxford University. Rhodes Scholars are selected from across the disciplines, and are able to select any course of study offered by Oxford. Rhodes Scholars are chosen not only for their outstanding scholarly achievements, but for their character, commitment to others and to the common good, and for their potential for leadership in whatever domains their careers may lead.

Eligibility: Seniors and recent graduates under the age of twenty-four at the time of application are eligible.

Selection Process: Applicants must receive an institutional endorsement from their undergraduate institution. The application consists of an academic statement, a personal statement, a resume-like listing of activities and achievements, a transcript, and five to eight letters of recommendation. Applicants are nominated by the college and submit written materials to the state committee. Interviews are held in each state, with finalists competing in regional interviews. Thirty-two Rhodes Scholars are selected from the US each year.

Institutional Deadline: September 1 for campus endorsement. Applicants should be in contact with the campus representative at least one month before the institutional deadline. Final submission of the application is usually around October 1.
