NEH Summer Stipend Awarded to Andrew Bernstein
The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) has awarded Andrew Bernstein, Associate Professor of History and Department Chair, a much-sought after NEH Summer Stipend. This highly competitive program provides scholars with a $6,000 stipend for two months of full-time research and/or writing. This award will enable Dr. Bernstein to spend Summer 2012 continuing research on and writing chapters of his book, Fuji: A Mountain in the Making. As indicated in his proposal, this book will “resituate and augment conventional views of Fuji to create something new: a comprehensive ‘environmental biography’ of the mountain that does it justice as an actor in, and product of, both the physical world and the human imagination.” More about this multidisciplinary project and Dr. Bernstein’s research is available at: http://college.lclark.edu/faculty/members/andrew_bernstein/
More about the NEH Summer Stipend program is available at: http://www.neh.gov/grants/guidelines/stipends.html. Please contact Kelly DelFatti (x7211) with any questions about Lewis & Clark’s internal nomination process.
