Annual MLK Celebration: Now a Full Week Observance

The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration at Lewis & Clark is an annual celebration honoring the legacy of Dr. King and the impact he has made on those who carry the torch for peace, justice, and humanity.
Beginning Monday, January 16th, you are invited to participate in a series of events, including the MLK Day of Service, the Civil Rights Walk in the Gregg Pavilion, a celebratory evening of song and reflection, and a lecture series featuring faculty from CAS, Law and Grad. Revisit the portraits, words, images, and songs that encapsulate Dr. King’s enduring and transformative message that continue to inspire us today.
The commemoration includes the following events:
Monday, January 16
MLK Day of Service
Nine colleges and universities will bring together 1,200 students to serve, honor Dr. King, and explore education as a civil right in Portland.

Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration*
Readings from Dr. King’s speeches and a candlelight vigil. Gospel by Northeast Community Fellowship Foursquare Church Praise Team

*Events organized by the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Steering Committee, in conjunction with the Dean of the Chapel and the Office of Multicultural Affairs.

The members include Janet Davidson, Associate Professor of Psychology; Alejandra Favela, Associate Professor of Education; and Bill Chin, Professor of Legal Analysis and Writing; Mark Duntley, Dean of the Chapel; Tricia Brand, Associate Dean of Students and Director of Multicultural Affairs; Tracy Nguyen-Chung, Program Coordinator in Multicultural Affairs; Grace Uwagbae, alumni; and Nima Mohamed, first-year student.
