Alumnus honored as mobile health innovator of the year
Isaac Holeman ’09 is a winner of the Top 11 in 2011 Innovators Challenge, which recognizes professionals who have used mobile technology in innovative ways to improve health systems and outcomes in remote areas of the world.
Holeman is the chief strategist for Medic Mobile, an organization he co-founded before graduating from Lewis & Clark. The nonprofit has already garnered much acclaim for using mobile technology for social good. This most recent honor recognizes the impact of Medic Mobile’s SIM apps, which enable menu-driven applications to run directly from a SIM card on even the least expensive phones in Malawi and Cameroon.
The Top 11 in 2011 Innovators—presented by the mHealth Alliance, with funding from the Rockefeller Foundation—reflect the results of a public nomination and voting process, as well as juried selection committee voting. Nominations came from more than 30 countries around the world.
Learn more about Holeman’s leadership in the field of mobile health and the mission of his organization (formerly titled FrontlineSMS:Medic) in this interview, on his blog, or on Twitter.
