March 13\, 2014\, at 4:30pm \;Miller 105 \; \;The ideolog
y of glamour became the most ostentatious and alluring novelty during the
first presidency of Vladimir Putin (2000-2008). The Russian fascination
with glamour was so intense that many cultural commentators began to refe
r to it as the new ideology that the country had been searching for after
the collapse of the USSR in 1991.This talk will outline key aspects of R

o its social and political underpinnings. \;Larissa Rudova isYale B

In Putin's Russia: From "Gulag Archipelago" to
"Glamour Archipelago"
\;By Larissa Rudova\,

\;The ideology of glamour beca
me the most ostentatious and alluring novelty during the first presidency
of Vladimir Putin (2000-2008). The Russian fascination with glamour was
so intense that many cultural commentators began to refer to it as the ne
w ideology that the country had been searching for after the collapse of
the USSR in 1991.
This talk will outline key aspe
cts of Russian glamour culture—its opulence\, gloss and seductiveness\,
but also its social and political underpinnings.
