More on the Speaker

Professor Safran has been teaching at Lewis & Clark since 2000 and is currently an Associate Professor of Geological Science and the chair of the Environmental Studies Program at Lewis & Clark. Her courses include Environmental Geology, Hydrology, The Origins of Life in the Universe, Oregon Field Geology, and others. Her research focuses on Geomorphology - the study of why the landscape looks the way it does and the processes that shape them.

Professor Safran is also playing a central role in developing a long-term strategic plan in ensuring Lewis & Clark remains a leader in innovative environmental scholarship and is recognized nationally as such.

She holds a B.A. from Harvard (1989), an M.A. from University of Washington (1993), and a Ph.D. from University of California at Santa Barbara (1998).
