World-renowned canopy biologist and “queen of canopy research,” DR. NALINI NADKARNI is a pioneer in forest canopy studies and a leader in fostering communication between scientists and the greater public.
For the last three decades, Dr. Nadkarni has explored canopy ecosystems in the rainforests of Costa Rica, the Pacific Northwest, the Amazon and Papua New Guinea. She has authored over 100 scientific articles, three scholarly books, and her work has been featured in magazines ranging from Natural History to Glamour and Playboy. She has appeared in television documentaries including Bill Nye the Science Guy, Good Morning, America, and National Geographic.
Combining her love of trees with a deep commitment to public outreach and social justice, Dr. Nadkarni has collaborated with artists, educators, inner-city youth, inmates, and religious groups to raise awareness surrounding the importance of forest ecosystems while also working to improve the lives of those who are removed from natural environments.
Dr. Nadkarni is the Director of the Center for Science and Mathematics Education and a Professor of Biology at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.
