Electoral Politics: Where the Presidential and Portland Mayoral Candidates Stand
Black Lives Matter has decided not to endorse any presidential candidate. Nonetheless, individual BLM activists have supported particular presidential candidates and put pressure on all candidates to address the issues of police brutality and mass incarceration.
This panel invites local BLM activists and political scientists to evaluate the records of the presidential and Portland mayoral candidates on issues of concern to BLM. Black Lives Matter recognizes that the struggle for black freedom and justice must continue beyond this electoral cycle, and yet Portland’s next mayor and the country’s next president will set the stage for the possibility of change or more of the same.
