Academic English Studies is offering a workshop to students who are considering or planning on teaching English abroad. The workshop will focus on practical skills such as writing lesson plans and creating communicative activities. Prominent dissident Uzbeck writer, poet, and translator, Hamid Ismailov, will give a talk on his work, within the context of his life and the larger historical and political events taking place in the late Soviet Union, post-Soviet Uzbekistan and the UK. Additionally, he will offer a unique comparative perspective on the literary and publishing processes in the Western and Non-Western worlds, as well as a personal take on living and writing under state censorship.
