Beethoven is widely regarded as one of the greatest composers of all time, yet he could hear only a fraction of the music he wrote, and none of what he composed during the final decades of his life.
In this concert OHSU professor of otolaryngology, Dr. William Martin, PhD, will discuss Beethoven’s deafness, lending insight into what hearing loss may have been like for him, what could have caused it, and what impact it may have had on his music.
Lewis and Clark faculty Dorien de Leon and Susan DeWitt Smith will play Beethoven’s Cello Sonata in G minor, Op. 5, No. 2, joined by the Oregon String Quartet performing Beethoven’s great late string quartet in Eb, Op. 127.
Join us for a fascinating evening of medical insight and the wonderful music of Ludwig van Beethoven. Free Admission.
