June 07, 2010
Summer 2010
Matthew Nelson - ‘08; Foreign Languages major (Russian & Spanish) was a recipient of J. William Fulbright Teaching Assistantships in Russia in 2008/9 and 2009/10.
While on this assignment, Matthew with some other American grantees developed a summer project titled “Ramblin’ Across Russia: Accessing Culture and Language Through American Folk Music.” The goal of this project is to help Russian students improve their English in a fun and interactive environment, while exposing them to certain aspects of American culture not found in Hollywood films or American ‘popsa’. The group of four musicians will be visiting various English language summer camps in Russia where they will conduct classes, give presentations, and play concerts of American folk music.
