LAS SAAB Representative
Dear Latin American Studies Enthusiasts,
My name is Shayna Lignell and I am our department's representative to the Student Academic Affairs Board (SAAB). For those of you who don't know, SAAB uses student fees to fund meritorious grants for student-motivated research projects, Arts & Expression projects/performances, attendance at conferences, and bringing visiting scholars to campus. I would encourage all of you to take advantage of this unique program during your time here at LC. In order to get a grant you must apply to the board. Applications can be found outside of the SAAB office in Templeton, or online at: http://www.lclark. edu/org/aslc/saab. html.
As a department representative I am available to help you with editing your grant proposal and as a possible signer for your grant (you need two). If you are planning on applying for a grant, be sure to allow plenty of time to write the grant and get feedback (this is never a quick process)
We review conference and visiting scholar grants on a rolling basis, and these grant proposals must be turned in by 5pm on Wednesdays to be reviewed the following week.
Research and Arts grants are only reviewed once per semester. This semester, research grants are due by 12 noon on Sunday October 19, and Arts and Expression Grants are due by 12 noon on Sunday November 2.
Please feel free to contact me with any question that you may have about SAAB, academic issues in our department, or about getting a grant. My email address is slignell@lclark.edu.
