German Language Community

GermanRLC20113

The German language community is a four-bedroom apartment in West hall, which is home to three German Studies students and Josephine Eberhardt, the German language assistant from Munich, Germany.

Students elect to live in the language community in order to keep and strengthen their ties to Germany after coming back from the Year of Study in Munich Program or in order to improve their German language skills and learn more about the culture of the German-speaking lands.  The language community is open to all students who have taken German 202 or have the equivalent language proficiency.

The German language community conducts a variety of activities, such as cooking traditional food (schnitzel, Christmas cookies, German cakes), organizing a Christmas party and trips to the opera, watching German films, and hosting cultural events, such as Oktoberfest.

A major goal of the German language community is to speak German on a daily basis.  With the help of Josephine Eberhardt, the three students currently living there are able to keep and improve the skills they learned abroad.  The German language community would be a great way for German students who don’t have the opportunity to go abroad to learn and speak German on a daily basis.
