The French Residential Language Community (RLC), better known as “Les Appartes français” is a vibrant community of three apartments of four students each.  Living in French in the “Appartes français” is as close as you will get to having an immersion experience living in France or going there on a Lewis & Clark College overseas program.

While in your Apparte or visiting your neighbors, you speak and think in French, you hear it all around you, 24/7.  Dinners prepared and hosted by a different Apparte each time foster camaraderie and good conversation between “colocataires” (flat mates).  The French Language Assistant on campus lives in one of the Appartes.  TV5, available in the lounge of the building, brings you closer to the rest of the Francophone world and gives you an opportunity to watch and discuss together French and Francophone news programs, films, series, etc.  Living there is the way to experience French & Francophone culture outside of the classroom.

Life in the Appartes français  bridges your academic life and your student life in a holistic way.  It brings together students who have had the equivalent of two years of College French.  You don’t have to major in French to be a part of the Appartes, you just need to want to be around French, speak it and hear it all the time, even dream in it!  Live there for the entire year or for a semester before going abroad or upon returning from overseas.  Whether you are a Freshman, a Sophomore, a Junior or a Senior, by living there you make the actual French-speaking student community come into being as a whole!
