David Maddison is a well-known theoretical and empirical phylogenetic biologist, computational biologist, and an expert on beetle diversity. He is co-author of the software programs Mesquite and MacClade - widely used tools for computational evolutionary biology, and is the creator and coordinator of the Tree of Life web project. He is also a faculty member in the Center for Genome Research and Biocomputing at Oregon State. As if that’s not enough he’s also an amazing artist and cake sculptor.
